Lauren,

Our chili powder is something Brooke picked up at Whole Foods back when we were living in DC. It's pretty good, and so far, reserves are holding. I'm not sure I trust the German take on chili powder...probably a bit bland.

There are a bunch of recipes online for making it yourself: http://www.grouprecipes.com/12393/firehouse-hot-chili-powder.html

If you don't feel like mixing up a batch, you can probably get away with spicing with some paprika, lots of cumin, a bit of cayenne, garlic powder, and a little oregano to taste. A little ground coriander and ancho pepper (do they even have that here?) would be good, too.

Mmm, making me hungry.

Clearly the weather has a similar effect on me. I made chili for us on Wednesday! (Your chili powder - did you bring it or have you purchased it here? I'm, at this point, all out of what I brought with me.)

I love how she talks about "getting away" and escaping by taking a few minutes in the kitchen to stir. I can relate completely.

Is it just me, or did they pin her sweater back (the way they do with mannequins) in order to accentuate her chest?

Your suggestion of reusing the mess of cake batter was a success. It was took thick for crepes but almost right for pancakes. I'll admit it there were a few casualties at first as I figured out the right temp, but in the end we had some very delicious little cream cheese pound cake pancakes. I'm not sure I'm ready to sacrifice another cake to make them again, but I was really happy to use up the leftovers. THANKS!!!!
