Cooking chemistry is a funny thing. With some co-chefs, you find a natural rhythm and just click. One chops, another stirs, and not much needs to be said at all. You trust each other, and no one gets bossed around.
It doesn’t always run so smoothly. Check out the latent power struggle between Rachel Ray and her mother in the video below. Their collaborative effort to make her mother’s signature dishes is cringe-worthy. There’s so much underlying tension in the kitchen. Rachel pays lip serve to deferring to her mother’s instruction, but it’s clear she’s running the show. I’m surprised mom doesn’t “accidentally” whack her over the head with a sauté pan. Chicken tetrazzini has never been so stressful.
