Wherever pleasure is concerned, the lines often tend to blur. Check out this interesting article by Mary Ebertstat, “Is Food the New Sex?” She asks, “What happens when, for the first time in history, adult human beings are free to have all the sex and food they want?”
“In just over 50 years, in other words — not for everyone, of course, but for a great many people, and for an especially large portion of sophisticated people — the moral poles of sex and food have been reversed. Betty thinks food is a matter of taste, whereas sex is governed by universal moral law of some kind; and [her granddaughter] Jennifer thinks exactly the reverse.
What has happened here? “
A very good question. Read more of Eberstat’s theory here.
Technically unrelated, but still funny the context of the title of this post, is this racy PETA ad, “Veggie love”:
Unfortunately some hyper-vigilant “adult content” flaggers have made it so that you must log in to youtube to view the video. Gah. I don’t even particularly *like* the commercial, but that doesn’t mean I condone its censorship.
Hat tip to Sameer for highlighting Eberstat’s article.
